Elery Nau Hardware proud of knowledgeable staff

Jun 7, 2023

DAVE KENNEDY/Sun-GazetteElery Nau Hardware has been a staple of the region since 1946.

Elery Nau Hardware, located at 917 Broad Street in Montoursville is a one stop shop for hardware supplies.

The shop offers electrical supplies, plumbing supplies, lawn and garden products and more.

"People will come to us and ask us about the painting projects, about electrical projects. Just general, ‘How do I fix this?’ ‘What am I doing here?’ ‘Do I need to call in a plumber’ ‘Can I do it myself?" Paul Early, part owner of Elery Nau Hardware said.

The staff, most of which have long-term professional experience, are ready to answer any questions customers might have.

"We’ve been very fortunate. A majority of my staff has actually retired and most of them come from retired professions. HVAC, electrical, General Maintenance, those types of things," he added.

Elery W. Nau and his wife, Betty, started their business in 1946. Later on, Elery's son and son-in-law, Tom and Gary became managers of the store.

"They opened an appliance store. And over the years, the building we’re currently in, the first portion that was built in 1950. They had appliances and they started adding electrical goods and some small hardware items over the years, but it's just grown," Early said.

Elery Nau Hardware again changed ownership this past January. The business is now owned by Early, Carrie Bennett and Jeff Allergucci.

"Our customers have come to expect certain things that come to expect a certain level of customer service," Early said. "They’ve come to expect what kind of products we carry, the knowledge our staff has," he added.

The new owners hope to carry on the family dynamic of the long-time business.

"Our employees have come to be expected and quite honestly deserve to be paid fairly, to have benefits, vacations, that type of thing and not have to worry about their life that way," Early said. "Gary and Tom treated us all as family, from company picnics to afternoon outings, Christmas parties, that type of stuff. They’ve always treated us well. And I’ve always cared for what's going on in our lives. Why didn't I really want to see it go away."
